The Hungry Forager is an educational program based out of the Bluegrass Region with a focus on teaching people about wild edible plants and fungi, ethnobotany, agroforestry, ecology, and natural history. The program was established in the spring of 2020 by Kentucky native and self-taught ecologist George Barnett. He attributes his obsession, curiosity, and appreciation of the natural world to his unique enthusiastic approach to teaching people out in the field.
In April of 2024, George's first book Foraging Kentucky: An Introduction of the Edible Plants, Fungi, and Tree Crops of the Southeast was published by the University Press of Kentucky. To checkout more of George's work, go here.
