Summertime foraging! One of the best times of the year to be out in the wilderness with an empty belly and a curious mind for learning about natural ingredients. This workshop will take place in a mixed hardwood and pine forest in eastern Kentucky. We’ll be discussing and searching for wild edibles like wild mushrooms, berries and greens that are commonly found in these areas. We’ll cover wild species identifications, ethnobotanical traditions with specific wild foods, what benefits these wild foods can bring to your life and how to properly and safely prepare these delicacies for the dinner table! The trail that we’ll be hiking is roughly 4 miles round trip with various inclines and declines, so individuals that wouldn’t feel confident hiking something like this should absolutely consider it before purchasing a ticket.
