Planting Native Food Forests / October 22nd, 2023
As a harvester of many tree crops, I find it incredibly rewarding every autumn to gather tree seeds (e.g. acorns, hickory nuts, persimmon seeds, pawpaw seeds, etc.) not only to consume, but propagate. Stratifying these tree seeds in cold storage over the winter months before planting them out on your property or in wilder native areas will help give back to the forests, parks and meadows that give us so much. We need our forests to continue providing for us and wildlife, we need more food forests! During this class, seed collection strategies, seed stratification techniques and optimal planting methods will be discussed in great detail. All attending individuals will go home with a dozen food bearing tree seeds (species will vary) to stratify and plant out the following the spring. This class size is strictly limited to 20 individuals.
